Start collecting these documents early. Most delays in overseas employment come not from the visa itself but from incomplete or expired documents at the point of application. Aim to have the full set ready before you submit any application.
Core identity documents
- Passport - machine-readable, minimum 18 months validity from intended travel date. Renew now if close to expiry. Check every blank page is present - torn or stained passports cause embassy issues.
- CNIC - original, not expired, matching name on passport. If there's a spelling difference, correct it at NADRA before applying.
- Birth certificate - NADRA-issued. Useful if asked by embassy or for family-reunification later.
- Domicile certificate - useful for some clearances.
Professional documents
- Matric / SSC certificate - minimum education record.
- Intermediate / FSc / DAE - if applicable.
- Trade diploma - TEVTA, Punjab Vocational Training Council, NAVTTC, or private institute. A recognised diploma helps more than employers realise.
- Experience letters - from previous employers, on company letterhead, stating role, dates, and duties. Get one from every major employer from the past 5-10 years.
- Trade-specific certifications - see below.
- CV - 1-2 pages, English, reverse-chronological, clear on trade and years of experience.
Clearances
- Medical fitness certificate - from a GAMCA-approved centre or an equivalent recognised clinic. Covers general health, infectious disease screening (TB, hepatitis, HIV), and fitness for physical work. Valid typically 3 months.
- Police character certificate - issued by the district police / Special Branch. Confirms no criminal record. Valid typically 3-6 months.
- BE&OE protector seal - Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment protector seal on your passport. Mandatory for all overseas workers going on work visas.
Medical and police clearances have short validity (often 3 months). Don't get them too early - coordinate timing with your agency so they are fresh when the embassy appointment comes.
Translation and notarisation
Turkey generally requires Turkish translations of official documents for the work permit file. The recruitment agency usually handles translations through a recognised translator in Turkey or through an apostilled process from Pakistan. Your job:
- Provide clear, legible originals or high-quality scans.
- Have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attest key documents if requested - your agency will tell you which.
- Names must match across all documents. If you've ever had a spelling variation on any certificate, get it corrected before submitting.
Trade certifications that matter
By trade:
- Welders - AWS, ASME IX, EN 9606 certifications. Specific position qualifications (3G, 6G). Classification society approvals (Lloyd's, DNV, ABS, BV) for shipyard work.
- Electricians - Pakistan Engineering Council trade certificate if applicable, panel wiring certifications, any international certification from prior Gulf work.
- CNC operators - machine-brand certifications (Mazak, Haas, Fanuc control), CAM software proficiency (Mastercam, Fusion, etc.).
- Heavy-equipment operators - IPAF, CPCS, or equivalent operator certifications. Truck / HTV driving licence.
- Construction trades - scaffolding certifications, working-at-height, confined-space entry where applicable.
More certifications = higher shortlist chance. If you have certifications gathered from prior Gulf work, dig them out and make copies.
Photos and biometrics
- Passport-size colour photos - white background, recent (within 3 months), no glasses, proper attire. Get at least 10 copies.
- For the embassy, fingerprints and a biometric photo are captured on appointment day.
- For BE&OE processing, biometric capture may also be done at the Protectorate office.

How to keep documents safe
- Keep originals in a folder at home, with photocopies in a separate folder.
- Scan everything to your phone and to a cloud account you own (Google Drive, iCloud).
- Email yourself the scans too, so they're in multiple places.
- Do not hand originals over to anyone without a written receipt.
- In Turkey, keep your passport and work permit card on you; keep a scan/photo elsewhere.
